Vochol® representa un hecho sin precedente en la historia del arte popular en México y el mundo, en el que dos familias de artesanos huicholes de los estados de Nayarit y Jalisco, tomaron como lienzo la estructura a tamaño real de un automóvil, para intervenirlo con un diseño exclusivo a base de chaquira.
Los artesanos huicholes iniciaron la intervención del Vochol® en mayo, de 2010, en el Hospicio Cabañas, en Guadalajara, Jalisco; para posteriormente continuar en el Centro Estatal para las Culturas Populares e Indígenas de Nayarit.
Luego de 4 mil 760 horas de trabajo, en un lapso de siete meses; alrededor de 2 millones 277 mil chaquiras, que equivalen a 90 kilos de este material; 16 kilos de resina especial, tela, pintura, estambre; y la inspiración creadora de los también llamados wixaricas, el automóvil se presenta en el Museo de Arte Popular (MAP), en donde concluyeron los detalles finales de su decoración.
Se trata de una obra de arte inédita, en la que transbordan los sentires de una cultura que mira a través de un cristal poli-cromático, capaz de mezclar lo real con lo imaginario, enalteciendo de manera espectacular el arte popular mexicano.
Sus diseños y colorido se convierten en la oportunidad perfecta para enlazarse estrechamente con una cultura de rito, destreza y sensibilidad, dando como resultado una explosión de colorida originalidad. El Vochol® se exhibe en el Museo de Arte Popular hasta principios de enero 2012.

Vochol® is an unprecedented event in the history of popular art in Mexico and the world, in which two families of Huichol artisans from the states of Nayarit and Jalisco, take as a canvas a structure of an actual size car; a unique design based on beads.
Huichol artisans began the intervention of the Vochol® in May 2010, at the Hospicio Cabañas in Guadalajara, Jalisco, and then continue in the Centro Estatal para las Culturas Populare e Indigenas in Nayarit.
After 4,760 hours of work, within seven months, about 2 million 277 thousand beads, equivalent to 90 kilos of this material, 16 kilos of special resin, fabric, paint, yarn, and the creative inspiration of the also called Wixarica's, the car is presented in the Museo de Arte Popular (MAP), in which they concluded the final details of its decoration.
This is an unprecedented work of art, which transshipped the feelings of a culture that looks through a poly-chromatic glass, capable of mixing the real with the imaginary, enhancing dramatically Mexican folk art.
Their colorful designs become the perfect opportunity to bond closely with a culture of ritual, skill and sensitivity, resulting an originality colorful explosion. The Vochol® is exhibit at the Museo de Arte Popular in Mexico City until january 4 2012.
